People, roles and permissions
Twenty-one granular permissions, eight roles to start with, and every one of them yours to reshape.
Roles are not fixed. The eight you start with - owner, administrator, project manager, estimator, accountant, site foreman, crew, viewer - are a sensible opening position, and every permission on every role can be changed, or a new role created from scratch.
| Group | Covers |
|---|---|
| Projects | Seeing projects, creating and editing them, the schedule |
| Field | Work orders, logging time and photos, the punch list, inspections |
| Documents | RFIs and submittals |
| Money | Estimates and pricing, billing, purchasing, budgets |
| Directory | Clients, subcontractors and suppliers |
| Company | Reports, the admin panel, people and roles, settings |
Admin comes in kinds. Alongside the full Administrator, an Operations admin runs the work - projects, field, schedule and approvals - but never touches money or the account; a Finance admin runs the money - pricing, billing, purchasing and approvals - but never the field or the account. Both can decide the approvals board; neither can manage people or settings.
Inviting somebody emails them a link to set their own password - nobody types a password for somebody else. The invitation expires after seven days.
Two things are deliberately hard. The account owner cannot be locked out of their own company, and administrators cannot be stripped of the permission to manage people - otherwise the last administrator can quietly lock everybody out, including themselves.
Undoing things
| What happened | The way back |
|---|---|
| Somebody has too much access | Change their role, or edit the role. Permission changes take effect on their next request. |
| Somebody left | Deactivate rather than delete. Everything they logged keeps their name on it. |
| Deactivating yourself | Refused. |
| Deleting a built-in role | Refused. Edit its permissions instead. |
| Wrong person as owner | Transfer ownership. It is deliberately its own action rather than a dropdown. |
Access: People management to invite and change roles; only the owner can transfer ownership.
