Handbook / Running the job
Daily logs
A dull habit that wins arguments months later.
One entry a day per job: the weather and temperature, how many were on site and for how long, what was done, what held things up, safety notes, who visited, which subs were there and what was delivered.
Nobody enjoys filling it in. It is also the single most useful record a company has when a client, an insurer or a lawyer asks what was happening on a particular Tuesday in March.
Delays are the field that matters. A logged delay with a date and a reason is the difference between a schedule extension you can evidence and one you are arguing about.
- Log it from siteField Mode → the job → File today's daily log. It takes a minute.
- Say what held things upEven "waiting on the electrician" is worth writing down.
- Attach photographsEnd-of-day shots against the log tie the two together.
- Send the digest if you want itThe office can email a daily report to whoever needs it.
Undoing things
| What happened | The way back |
|---|---|
| Wrong day's log | Edit the date, or delete it and file a fresh one. |
| Somebody deleted a log | It is gone. Logs are cheap to write and expensive to lose; deletion needs work order management for that reason. |
Access: Field access to file one; work order management to delete one.
